An example of a hyperbole in 'The Chase' by Annie Dillard is:
"If in that snowy backyard the driver of the black Buick had cut off our heads, Mikey’s and mine, I would have died happy, for nothing has required so much of me since as being chased all over Pittsburg in the middle of winter—running terrified, exhausted—by this sainted, skinny, furious red headed man who wished to have a word with us."

Hyperbole is known to be a figure of speech which actually uses exaggerations or exaggerated statements to portray a situation and such exaggerations are not taken literally.
In the above example, Dillard was trying to point out that since the man was committed to chasing them all day, he was bent on catching them in order to scold them.
In "The Chase", Annie Dillard tells about how some young people was chased by a man who they threw snowballs on.
