Aristarchus tried to calculate the sizes of the sun and moon based on
their relative distances from earth. He estimated the size of the sun
relative to the moon by making observations during an eclipse. By
measuring the diameter of the shadow of the earth, he calculated that
the earth is about 2.67 times the diameter of the moon. Aristarchus
then calculated that, since the diameter of the sun was about 19 times
farther away from earth than the moon, its diameter was 19 times
that of the moon, and 7 times that of the earth. Although Aristarchus
was not too far off in calculating the relative size of the earth to the
moon (it is actually 3.6 times bigger), he was way off in calculating
the relative size of the sun. Its diameter is actually 109 times that of
the earth.
1. Which statement is INCORRECT?
A. Aristarchus calculated the distances between the sun and
earth fairly accurately.
B. Aristarchus underestimated the size of the sun in relation
to earth.
C. Aristarchus's estimates of the relative sizes of the earth
and moon were not too far off.

Respuesta :

The incorrect statement is that; "Aristarchus calculated the distances between the sun and earth fairly accurately."

The size of the solar system

The solar system is composed of the sun, the planets and other celestial bodies such as the moon. We can see form the experiment that Aristarchus  tried to determine the relative sizes of the earth and the moon.

However, the incorrect statement is that; "Aristarchus calculated the distances between the sun and earth fairly accurately."
