You can explain which exactly taxes the British had enforced. You can also explain the relationship between Britain and US at that time. A Mother Country and a colony. You can also the few smaller reasons of why the US rebelled. Taxes was the breaking point.
You should emphasize that the colonies didn’t have a say in parliament, essentially leaving them without a voice to speak with. You can also talk about the social contract and that in the eyes of John Locke, “any government that breaks this contract, it is up to the people to rise up.” A counterclaim can be that Great Britain needed money after the seven years war, and a refuting fact can be that the U.K definitely crossed the line and had many others streams of revenue.
