People who hold federal positions often have to make a lot of controversial moves that people disagree with, because of this, they probably get swamped with petition and letters that they shrug off a majority of them. And because ignoring a few hundred people won’t have that much effect on a vote, there are no consequences, the case is the opposite for local positions because they depend on the support of their town, city, or district to win next term and need as many votes as they can get.
