Each section of the coordinate plane is called as quadrants.
A cartesian oordinate plane has 4 quadrants. They are :
- I quadrant → This quadrant lies to the right of the y-axis & above the x-axis. Both the coordinates of the points marked here will have positive values (+x, +y).
- II quadrant → This quadrant lies to the left of the y-axis & above the x-axis. The abscissa will have negative value while the ordinate will have positive value (-x, +y).
- III quadrant → This quadrant lies to the left of the y-axis & below the x-axis. Both the coordinates of the points marked here will have negative values (-x, -y).
- IV quadrant → This quadrant lies to the right of the y-axis & below the x-axis. The abscissa will have a positive value while the ordinate will have negative (+x, - y).
