Respuesta :
The United States responded to the independence movement in Vietnam in the following way.
- The Federal government of the United States firmly opposed the independence of Vietnam from France.
- Of course, as an ally of France, the US government expressed its entire support to the government of France.
- France tried to keep control over this former French colony.
- H* Chi Minh was the leader of the nationalist movement in Vietnam, and his Vietminh League fought to gain independence from France.
- However, the Geneva Conference restricted H* Chi Minh’s plans.
- The decision in that conference was that France had to remove their troops and Vietnam had to be divided at the 17th parallel.
- It also mandated elections in two years to elect a new Vietnamese president.
We conclude that the United States government fully supported the government of France to keep control over Vietnam, a former French colony.
