As a person who actually does read and enjoys graphic novels, I can say that they are books. They provide a story, characters, and me and many others wonder what will happen next.
However, as much as I love my graphic novels, I don’t ever picture an English teacher using them for the reason of them believing that graphic novels aren't literature. I actually see art teachers using them more to be honest for their own lessons in how to make comics and stuff.
Others may have their own opinions, and that's fine. You may have one that differs mine too. And that's okay.
I just like it when English teachers let me read what I want in peace. :)
