Palmer and Teller are playing the Secret Word Game. Teller chooses any word he wants in the Webster's Ninth Edition dictionary, which contains 200,000 entries. It is Palmer's task to find the page that Teller's word is on. He does this by splitting the dictionary. First, he opens the dictionary and reads the guide word on the middle page. Teller must say whether his Secret Word comes before or after the guide word. Now Palmer has reduced his list from 200,000 to 100,000 possible words, his list will narrow to
50,000 words.
