British troops were sent to Boston in 1769 to restore order.

Earlier On 29 June 1767, the Townshend Acts named after Charles Townshend, was passed. This acts as done to impose taxes to the colonies on imported   glass, lead, paint, paper and tea. The funds generated from the taxes is said to pay the salaries of colonial authorities as a way of getting the  loyalty to the British from the American officials .

Because the American colonists were not agreeing to these acts , it led to  boycotting of the British goods  and increased  tensions between Britain and the American colonies.

In the spring of 1769, about 2,000 British troops were sent to  Boston in order to restore order due to the protests and boycott of goods by the colonies.  This unfortunately resulted to the killing of five American colonists by British soldiers shootings into the mob known as the  Boston Massacre.
