Loyalists felt that England gave them necessary protection from french troops. They saw what England was doing as fair and thought they should stay loyal to the king of england. People who disagreed would have argued that the colonies would have been able to protect themselves, as they had been for a while due to the fact that English troops were few and could not protect townships settling farther inland.
