Stars are very numerous. There are estimated to be roughly 200 billion trillion stars in the observable universe. With a number this immense, it is logical to assume that not all of the stars in the universe will be the same. Stars can vary from one another in many ways, including but not limited to:

  • Temperature
  • Luminosity
  • Size
  • Color
  • Lifespan

The size of stars is one of the most noticeable differences amongst them. Stars are even often classified due to their size, from dwarf stars to supergiant stars. Dwarf stars can be just as big as the moon, whilst some supergiant stars are as big as our entire solar system. The size of stars is often linked to their lifespan, generally, the larger a star, the shorter its lifespan given that it burns fuel at an increased rate.

Stars can also vary in color, brightness (luminosity), and temperature. Stars can be:

  • Brown
  • Red
  • Yellow
  • Orange
  • Blue
  • White

which can depend greatly on their temperatures, the coldest stars tend to be brown or red low-brightness stars. For example, the coldest star known is a brown dwarf star with a surface temperature of 206 degrees Celcius. Meanwhile, the brightest stars are the superhot white and blue stars, which can reach temperatures of billions of degrees.

Therefore, we can inform the person in question about these facts to indicate the various ways in which stars can differ from one another, being sure to mention temperature, brightness, size, lifespan, and color as well as some of the reasons behind the changes.
