Was Andrew Jackson a great president? Opinions are mixed. What is yours? Consider the words that Jackson biographer James Parton wrote in 1859: "Andrew Jackson, I am given to understand, was a patriot and a traitor. He was one of the greatest of generals, and wholly ignorant of the art of war... He was tbe most candid of men. and was capable of the profoundest dissimulation... A democratic autocrat [ dictator]. An urbane [ sophisticated] savage. An atrocious [ awful] saint." (Now write a well-constructed essay of your own about the quality of the Jackson presidency. Be sure to start with a clear thesis statement and then give specific examples of events and issues to support your position). Answer: There are many things that set Andrew Jackson apart from other presidents. His policies and personality set him apart from most. Although he was the seventh president, he wasn't a favoriteable president. Andrew Jackson was not the great man that many people learned about. Jackson did many things during his presidency that should are dishonorable, such as supporting the Indian Removals, or kicking qualified people out of his office to make room for his friends in the government.

Jackson corrupted the government to gain power. He Forced Native Americans to flee their homes. Jackson also created the spoil system to further himself and hurt others. Andrew Jackson is a liar and a cheater. When Andrew Jackson first became popular politically it was because he lied to the American people about himself.

Andrew Jackson disagreed with different government systems, moved his friends and allies into the cabinet, and closed the national bank which proved that Andrew Jackson knew how he wanted to change the course of America and took less interest in pubic opinion. Andrew Jackson acted as more of a king than a president. Jackson did not serve for the people of America, Jackson served to change America how he believe it should be run. By ignoring the government Jackson acts more like a king than a president. Jackson went against Supreme Court decision and removed Indians from their land.

The reason why Andrew Jackson was elected as president was from his military career. Jackson became a hero when he defeated the British at New Orleans. Andrew Jackson rose from poverty to become a lawyer, landowner, multi-millionaire, founder of the Democratic Party and major military general.

Overall Andrew Jackson wasn't a great president. In fact he is more of a villain than a hero. His Presidential actions foreshadowed his military accomplishments by making many questionable decisions. Him signing the Indian Removal Act caused a major problem in the United States. In my opinion Andrew Jackson wasn't a great person during his presidency considering the fact that he didn't act like a usual president, instead he acted like a tyrant. Andrew Jackson didn't protect peoples rights instead violated them.
