The reader can tell that Malik isn’t sure he can win because of his ankle, which makes the reader nervous for Malik. The author describes the pain in great detail and employs. Malik’s ankle hurt a lot, so I used a simile to show how much it hurt. This gives the reader a better understanding of Malik and causes readers to think about and debate whether Malik will win or not. The author then abruptly changes the course of events, and Malik does not swim at all. The readers are now concerned about Sean and whether or not he will win. The conclusion alleviates the tension, and readers are relieved .
