Respuesta :

Intensive properties are more useful in determining the identity of an unknown substance.

INTENSIVE AND EXTENSIVE PROPERTIES:

  • Intensive properties of a substance are those properties that are not dependent on the amount of matter contained in the substance, but rather on the type of matter.

  • Examples of intensive properties are color, density, melting and boiling point, specific heat etc.

  • Extensive properties are dependent on the amount of matter contained in the substance e.g. volume, mass, weight etc.

  • Because intensive properties of a substance are not subject to change and are not dependent on amount, they more useful in determining the identity of an unknown substance.
