I know this because the angle in the corner is the same as the angle x, thus making them both 70. You now know two of the angles in the triangle on the right, because of the square which means the lower left angle is 90. A triangle has 180 degrees and 90+70 is 160 which means the remaining angle - y - must be 20.

this is an equilateral triangle. thus the bottom angles are equal (70 degrees).  A triangle adds up to 180 degrees.  70 + 70 = 140.  so the top angle would be a total of 40 degrees but Y is only half the top angle so Y = 20. thus your answer is .....
