For some people, they claimed that they saw the appearance of a scarlet letter on the minister's chest. The scarlet letter was claimed to be the same as they saw on Hester's. They came up with this claim as they thought that it was the guilt of the sin of the minister that brought him near to his death.
Another group of people came up with the conclusion that they never saw any such letter on his chest. They believed that the sin of women like Hester can result in the death of the people like ministers too.
