Scenario 1: One afternoon, Kara decided to dye her hair pink. The next morning before first period, Kara showed her hair off to all her friends. They loved it! When the bell rang, Kara walked into first period and sat in her usual seat. When her teacher looked at her, she called Kara over to her desk and told her that she would need to go to the office. According to her teacher, Kara was in violation of the school’s dress code.

Scenario 2: One day, a handsome young man, Romeo, saw a beautiful young girl, Juliet. Romeo decided at that moment that he needed to have Juliet for his one true love. Unfortunately, Romeo’s family and Juliet’s family hated each other and refused to let them be together.


Explain why each scenario is a character vs. society conflict.

In scenario 1, the character dyes her hair pink, which is considered to be in a way deviant. The people in the society around her shows examples of being against her decision, like when the teacher sends her to the office.

Answer: In the first scenario, the conduct that might be considered deviant is that the girl dyes her hair pink since it is not a natural color. In our society, it is not so normal to see someone with the hair of that color and according to her teacher, it contravenes the school's dress code.

In the second scenario Romeo is in love with Juliet. the conduct that might be considered deviant is that he contravenes his parents and his family since there is an old feud between Juliet's family and Romeo's family. When corresponding Romeo's love, Juliet also has a deviant conduct because it is normal and well seeing to obey parents. When Shakespeare wrote this play parents had to respected and obeyed. Well, I think parents must be obeyed and respected nowadays, too.
