Carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen from sugar molecules may combine with other elements to form other biomolecules. The picture above shows an example of this. Examine the model and choose ALL of the statements that accurately describe the formation of the new biomolecule.
A) Lipids are being formed.
B) The monomers are fatty acids.
C) This is a hydrolysis reaction.
D) Proteins are being broken down.

Biomolecules serve various purposes in the body. Many biomolecules are composed Carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.

The following statements describe the formation of the biomolecule shown in the image attached:

1) Lipids are being formed.

2) The monomers are fatty acids.

3) This is a dehydration synthesis reaction.

Lipids are composed chains of fatty acid having a phosphate group attached to it. A lipid is formed fatty acid molecules come together as shown in the image attached. The backbone of the molecule is glycerol.

As the lipid is formed by combination of the glycerol backbone and fatty acids, water molecule are lost at each point of attachment. This makes the reaction a dehydration synthesis reaction.
