Literary element is the term given to factors that make up a literary work, such as a poem, a book, a chronicle, among others. As the above question requires an analysis of the literary elements covered in the classroom, it is not possible for me to do this for you, but I will show you how to do it.
First you will need to read the poem and reread it, until all its content and message is understood by you. In this reading, you will be able to understand the literary elements tone, imagery and symbolism as follows:
- Tone: It refers to the feeling passed to the reader, through the text. The tone can be happy, sad, angry, hopeful, anxious, among others. You will be able to perceive it by identifying the sensation that the poem makes you feel.
- Imagery: Refers to words or phrases that stimulate one or more of the reader's five senses, causing very strong and real mental images and sensations. An example of imagery would be the phrase: The scorching heat flushed her cheeks.
- Symbolism: Refers to the presentation of symbols, that is, the text presents a word that symbolizes a very important meaning for the poem. An example of symbolism can be seen in the line of the poem "Fire and Ice," by Robert Frost which reads: "Some say the world will end in fire." This line simbolizes that the world is ending.
