Interpersonal communication may simply be explained as the exchange or trading of information between two or more persons.
The 8 principles of interpersonal communication are :
- IRREVERSIBLE : Actions or information performed or traded between two persons cannot be taken back as time cannot be reversed.

- EFFECTIVENESS CAN BE DEVELOPED : Having the ability to form a good interpersonal relationship can be developed through learning and practice.
- Interpersonal communication despite it's proficiency in sustaining relationships, it does not always mean there won't be rancor between communicating parties.
- ETHICAL CONCIOUSNESS : It is imperative that communicating parties respect ethical values and avoid hurtful involvement.
- By piecing both verbal and non - verbal cues, one can build meaning from communication.
The fact that interpersonal communication is irreversible makes it imperative that one is extra careful about one's utterances.
