Burn's opinion was that slaver was the main root of the problem, whereas King believed that believing that slavery as the main root of the war is foolish and extreme.

Other factors that could influence King's interpretation is the growth of manufacturing also spawned the wage labor system. Second, American society urbanized drastically during this era. This would have lead to a sense of wanting to expand and that could have influenced his point of view.

All throughout 1820-1865 there was slavery that might have sparked a sense of injustice in Burns. Being an abolitionist could have also been his reason.
