David got into the position as king by fighting a war and fought wars throughout his time as king. He fought many wars during his time as king including multiple wars against the Philistines and a war to capture Jerusalem and other cities.

Rehobam is the son of Solomon. The people rebelled aganist him. The people rebelled because Rehobam said that he would make the people pay much higher taxes and work harder then when his father was king. The reason was that one group told him to lower the taxes and one group told him to raise them and he listened to the one saying to raise the test.
