The answer is producer because they are at the bottom of the food chain and are the starting point of new energy.

  • In any ecosystem, producers are the point of entry for new energy.
  • The new energy obtained in an ecosystem is captured by the producers who utilize this energy to produce food. From the producers, energy then flows in the system from to the consumers.
  • For e.g. The energy of sunlight is captured by green plants (producers), the organism feeding on these plants (consumers) will then gain energy from the producers.
  • So from this example, it is clear the energy is initially captured by the producers.
