Aryan, name originally given to a people who were said to speak an archaic Indo-European language and who were thought to have settled in prehistoric times in ancient Iran and the northern Indian subcontinent

The Aryans were a group of people who originated in ancient Iran, as well as the northern areas of the Indian subcontinent. These people are believed to have existed during prehistoric times, and they most likely spoke an archaic Indo-European language.

However, in the 20th century, the concept of Aryan was also used to describe a light-skinned group of people who are believed to have conquered India from the North. Theorists of the "Aryan race" believed them to have brought important advancements to Indian culture. However, this theory is no longer supported by modern theorists.
