The conquest of Austria into Nazi Germany was done on 12th March 1938, which is also termed as “Anschluss” which means to join. Before the annexation, there was strong support from the citizens of all backgrounds for the coalition of both the nations and this desire initiated the formation of integral Nazi movement to lay ethnic Germans into Greater German.

The idea for the unification to form a Great Germany began after the fall of the Austro Hungarian Empire in the First World War in 1918. Hitler knew that Austria can only be taken by force so he so on 12th march Hitler's 8th Army marched into Austria without any resistance from the Austrian force. By the afternoon Hiller along with 4,000 bodyguards arrived at his birthplace Braunau am Inn, where he was welcomed with enthusiasm. The unification was welcomed by citizens of both Austria and Germany as they thought that unification will unite them into one state and will return the former power and glory.
