Explanation:

The number of American deaths was getting outrageous but the main reason people started to protest is to protect the Vietnamese. America was killing millions of innocent women and children for no apparent reason. For organizations such as  the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), the National Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam, the Black Panthers and the Youth International Party (the Yippies) had had enough of being responsible (in a way) for these deaths.
