The Law of Segregation means that two allele pairs segregate (or separate) for gamate formation. The Law of Independent Assortment means that one gene recieved does not influence another gene (genes are randomly selected). These laws help us use a Punett Square because a Punett Square shows all the possible predictions of an outcome (dominant/recessive) of a particular breeding experiment which helps show which gene may be randomly selected according to The Law of Individual Assortment.
