Explanation:
Romeo and Juliet” is a wonderful story about teenage infatuation and the problems kids get into because they don’t think things through. It’s also a great tale of how family “pride” can lead to family destruction.
Romeo is a hotblooded lover who falls for any good looking girl, while Juliet is a beautiful teenage girl who wants more than anything to get out from under Daddy’s controlling thumb. Both have a lust for life and a lust for each other, living in the moment, without concern for what might happen tomorrow. We see these kinds of teens every day, slipping into the stairwells or dark corner at school for a quick passionate kiss, sitting in class staring longingly at each other, staying out after curfew just to get those last few moments together.
I thoroughly enjoy the other characters as well: Mercutio, the firebrand who loves to taunt others; Tybalt, the bully always looking for a fight; Friar Laurence, the practitioner of potions and faith; the Prince, who always arrives too late and tries to use power rather than reason to resolve conflicts; Montague and Capulet, two heads of families so fixated on “pride and honor” that they see nothing else.
