Answer:

Susan B. Anthony argues that although legally not allowed to vote, she is entitled to participate in the country's running because of her condition of citizen. She is successful in arguing this point, as she provides strong evidence for her position. For example, she describes how the Constitution makes all people equal, and does not distinguish between men and women. She also describes how women display all the conditions of "humanity" one could expect, and therefore, do not deserve to be treated like inferior beings by the law.

Answer:

What would you do if you were told you couldn't do something important just because of your gender, race, or beliefs?

I agree with Anthony's decision to vote despite it being illegal for her to do so, and I think her speech effectively justifies her decision.

Susan B. Anthony argues that she committed no crime by voting because women's right to vote is natural and cannot be denied. Because the American government exists at the pleasure of citizens to enable them to exercise their natural rights, barring women from voting puts women at "the mercy of the other [male] half." She argues that women are people with the same natural rights as men, and reading the Constitution so that it excludes women is the same as convicting women of crimes without trials. In addition, she points out that it is inherently unfair to take the masculine pronouns in the Constitution literally to prevent women from voting while ignoring masculine pronouns to hold women accountable for crimes. To support her argument, Anthony uses quotations from legislators and from important documents such as the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.
