Selection of state court judges in Texas occurs through partisan elections as each court level. Term lengths vary, but all judges must run for re-election at the ends of their terms. The chief justice or judge of each court is selected by voters at large. He or she serves in that capacity for a full six-year term. Hope this helps!

Superior court judges serve six-year terms and are elected by county voters on a nonpartisan ballot at a general election. Vacancies are filled through appointment by the Governor. Between the ages of 35 to 74.  Each court has 1 chief justice and from 2 to 12 additional justices, for a total of 80 justices statewide.
