24 can divide: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8
40 can divide: 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10
The same number that they can divide is 4 and 8
I choose 4, 24 ÷ 4 = 6, 40 ÷ 4 = 10

Can it be more simply?
Yes
6 and 10 still can divide 2
