1. It is ironic that she needs to warn Mr. Higgins about his poor manners and lack of class when he is supposed to be teaching Eliza how to be a proper lady. Higgins is presented as the wealthy character in high social standing while Eliza is the poor, desolate character that needs Higgin's help in moving up in the world. By having Mrs. Pearce point out his bad manners Shaw is commenting on the social classes at the time and his belief that individuals in higher social classes are not necessarily "better" people.
