Animals can be good for research so students can learn more about the animal(s)' body(ies). It's also harsh for the animal to go through severe pain just for experimentation.

Out of both choices, I would prefer for them to NOT be used for research. Animals have lives too, just like us humans. I wouldn't want to be used for research, so I personally believe animals shouldn't either.
