Overt Racism is blatant, obvious, and almost always meant to harm. It can lead to mental and physical injury, violent destruction, or even death.

Examples of overt racism are: Someone committing hate crimes on another person because of their race or ethnic group, lynching, anti-immigrant violence, Blackface/Brownface, Racial Slurs, The Klu Klux Klan, Public harassment of POCs (especially because they are speaking other than English)

Systemic racism is racism directed against a group of people through an institution’s rules and/or policies.

Examples of systemic racism are: Segregation, not accepting someone for a job because they are apart of a certain ethnic group or race, police brutality, healthcare issues because of your race and/or ethnic group.
