How did the rise of industry in the North and in Europe encourage Southern planters to grow more cotton, and what was the consequences of that action ?
The cotton gin enabled southern planters to process cotton fiber more quickly and to profit more from growing cotton. Northern manufactures could in turn make more cotton cloth.
