Wilma Rudolph was a very well known American field sprinter born on 1940, who participated in the Olympics during 1956 and 1960.
In 1945 she was diagnosed with polio, a disease that attacks the nervous system. She survived the disease, but lost instead the use of her leg, till 1950 when she began to walk on it, after 5 years of treatments.
In 1994, she was diagnosed with brain cancer, which, this time, she didn't survive more than 4 to 5 months, and died in November 1994, in Her home, aged 54.
