Became more concerned about the conflicts in the Middle East.

The hostage crisis in Iran caused Americans to become more concerned about conflicts in the Middle East.

The hostage crisis in Iran describes the period of 444 days (November 4, 1979 to January 20, 1981) during which Muslim students who supported the Iranian Revolution took over the United States Embassy in Tehran. Fifty-two American diplomats and citizens were held hostage, causing uproar in the United States. In America, the situation decreased support for Jimmy Carter, while in Iran it increased the popularity of Ayatollah Khomeini. It also led to American economic sanctions against Iran.
