Hi im also a student who is doing this problem and wanted to help you out with the answer.

With steady state exercise you need oxygen and it is only fueled by stored fat. Meanwhile HIIT(interval exercise) has you breathing harder and uses carbohydrates plus burns more fat then steady stare exercises. Both of these exercise methods use oxygen and burn fat.
