Osteoporosis is a thinning of the bones that makes them prone to fracture. We often hear of old women who fall and break their hip. More often, their hip breaks causing a fall. What do you think is causing osteoporosis? Is it a lack of collagen or a lack of calcium phosphate? Why?
Osteoporosis usually occurs in women that are older than 50 and are in menopause. During menopause estrogen levels decrease. Estrogen prevents the loss of calcium and collagen in the bones.
