Near the beginning of A Christmas Carol, the narrator describes the London in which the action takes place as "cold, bleak, biting weather, foggy withal," and mentions that it is already dark at three o'clock. Which best describes the effect of these descriptions? A. They establish this section's grim mood. B. They give the story its upbeat and hopeful tone. C. They suggest the story's focus on redemption and rebirth. D. They paint an unrealistic picture of London in the 1800s.

Respuesta :

I think its A. They establish this section's grim mood. Hope thus helps :D
"B" clearly wouldn't be the correct answer, i've seen the show performed 100's of times and believe you me, it is anything but upbeat and hopeful. "C" sounds like it may be correct except for the fact that the entire story isn't about redemption or rebirth, maybe of the nation. "D" is way out of the question because London was exactly that in the 1800's, dark and cold. So the correct answer here would be "A" the beginning of the show is really dark and cold.
