2. Emmett was born in Chigaco, Illinois, on July 25, 1941, and he attended James McCosh Elementary School. In 2005, the school was renamed Emmett Louis Till Math and Science Academy in honor of him.

3. Emmett was hanged on August 28, 1955, after being falsely accused of harassing a white woman in a grocery store. In 2008, the white woman confessed that she was actually lying about Emmett harassing her.

4. After 65 years, Emmett's murderers have still not been punished. Once they confessed to murdering him, they were never punished and they spent their entire lives in freedom instead. But an organization called 'The Emmett Till Legacy Foundation' has honored him by telling his story to others, planning events and fundraisers, and encouraging people to support and donate. People have also created books, songs, and documentaries about him. Author James Baldwin wrote a book on Emmet called 'Blues for Mister Charlie’ while William Faulkner wrote several essays about him.
