In my opinion it;s because adults have a too big of an ego. They wall around with the impression that they're older and know more and we should just listen to them because of that. They feel the need to boss kids around. This affects the teenagers in a way that they get real bad attitudes and in some form, this is peer pressure. They no longer feel comfortable to talk or associate with their parent or any adult.
