But those who ate this honeyed plant, the Lotus,
never cared to report, nor to return:
they longed to stay forever, browsing on
that native bloom, forgetful of their homeland.
–The Odyssey,
Homer

Respuesta :

The flower if drank, made those not want to go home to their families, but they want to. The flower makes them do things they dont want to, this is like alcohol or drugs. People take them and they may do things they dont want to, they have to control.

Very central to this poem is a honeyed plant called the Lotus which when eaten, triggered forgetfulness in those who ate it, so much so that they forgot about returning to where they came from.

Paraphrased, therefore,

the passage speaks of a plant that was sweet to eat for it was honeyed. However, those who ate of it were bedeviled with forgetfulness so much so that they didn't consider communicating with nor going back to their homes important anymore. They preferred to stay on to eat more of it and watch it bloom.
