Common Sense was a text written by Thomas Paine. It's main purpose was to try to convince the American colonists to create a nation separate from those of the British.
Both this text and the Olive Branch Petition were to influence the American Colonist that their current king, King George III, was unfair to them and didn't listen to their petition.
However, these ended up coming in our favor, because without these influences, we wouldn't live in our current country, the United States, today.
