A homogenous solution is uniform throughout.  Meaning that it has the same composition/looks the same through out the solution.  It can be called a homogenous solution or mixture. The other type of solution is a heterogenous solution.  This solution is is visibly different looking, so it does not look the exact same throughout.

eg:

Milk is an example of a homogenous solution.  It looks the same all throughout but when you look at it under a microscope you can then see it is actually consisted of different things.

Sand in a cup of water is a heterogenous solution.  You are able to visibly see the different compounds that make up the solution.
