A perfect portrayal of the work environment would definitely be an animated cartoon series I used to watch called The Foundations of Wealth.
It's about an early civilization discovering and discussing many things, such as quality and quantity, and supply and demand.
It's about a family of four, and an entire village, and there's also this wonderful and huge market. Each family has seperate jobs. One family is a blacksmith, one is a fisher, farmer, a carpenter, or a weaver. Each member of the family, including the children, has a part to do, and when they do their part they're awarded with the fruit of their labor.
In the market, people bartered or traded their goods, if there was a good that you provided that people really loved to buy and they enjoyed it very much but there wasn't much quantity, then you would make the price of that good higher, but if it was a good that people didn't buy often and you had much quantity, then you would lower the price.
It's a lot better for the demand to be bigger than the supply, than for the supply to be bigger than the demand, otherwise it would be a waste of products and money if no one buys them.
In one specific episode, the main family finds a mine that's full of salt, and when they collected the salt and sold it, everybody loved it. But then more and more people began to find out about the salt, as there was an endless supply, and they began selling it.
But then everyone knew about the salt mines, and as there was an endless amount of salt that was free, no one wanted to buy the salt in the market any more.
The markest was one giant money-making system. When you hire someone to do work for you, called an employee, then you will give them something in return so that they can take care of both their needs and their wants, such as providing for their own family.
The winter season also took a huge toll in the village, so everyone inside the village helped each other to prepare, the biggest preperation was to make sure the houses were in tact.
What I loved about the village is that they worked fairly in a small community, and treated each other with respect, and if anyone was in need of help, the village was always there to help them get back on their feet, and teach them how to make a skill for themselves.
