Yet most people are familiar with the story of the boy who removed the sword from the stone and became king. The story became popular in France and Wales before the 11th century. Arthur became known as a great leader and conqueror. As time passed, writers added more details. Arthur was said to have started a group of brave knights, called the Knights of the Round Table. Arthur's main quest was to search for the Holy Grail. Stories about his love for Guinevere and their life in Camelot also became popular. Filled with adventure, love, bravery, and loyalty, the legends of King Arthur offered entertainment for many. It doesn't matter that King Arthur was not real.
