We adopt our current democratic system from the greek's with a couple of adjustments.

We adopt indirect democracy, which mean that we can only vote for the representatives that we believe will create the laws/regulations that we want. The Greek adopt a direct democracy, which mean that they can directly vote for the laws/regulations without the need of representatives.
