a. Five paragraph essay
When you are going to give a speech, what you will do is first attempt to get the attention of your audience, then provide a bit of background on your topic. Next, you’ll let them know (outline) what you will be discussing in the order you will discuss it (usually three points). You’ll follow that with the actual discussion as outlined and conclude be reiterating your topic. This, actually, is identical to the five-paragraph essay where you’ll begin with an attention getter, background information, thesis statement (topic outline), body paragraphs, then wrap things up with a conclusion.
