Coordinating conjunctions connect two sentences to give a complete thought and idea. When expressing "cause and effect", one may use for and so  as a coordinating conjunction. "For" means because and "So" means as a result.

Examples:

1. Charlie got a failing mark during the first quiz for he did not study the lesson very well.

2. I exercise daily so my doctor approves my full body training request as an athlete.
